2020 Macao Smart Streetlight Innovation Challenge for Youth

I. Introduction
Aligned with the smart city development in Macau, it is dedicated to develop the construction of smart city which focus on strengthening 5G network, data center and other new infrastructures. The smart streetlight plays the fundamental role in the smart city as it combines a variety of hardware facilities and able to execute intelligent lighting, security warning, release of information and a series of functions through big data interaction, cloud computing and so forth. In order to enhance students’ innovation and creativity, the “2020 Macao Smart Streetlight Innovation Challenge for Youth” is organized and encouraged the local youth to emerge their talents and innovation about the smart city construction.
II. Classification
The challenge is classified into two groups as follows:
- Outlook Design Group
It is required to select a specific place of Macao combined with geographical location, the surrounding landscape, cultural features and smart streetlight capability etc. The students have to provide a design drawing of the smart streetlight with explanation.
- Technical Solution Group
It shall integrate original smart streetlight technology proposal with characteristics of Macao and the latest technological development. It should be focusing on the overall functional or a particular function module of the streetlight and accommodate with the needs of Macao for the sake of optimizing the city management and living standard.
III. Competition Guidelines
- All Macao students from F2 to F6 during the academic year of 2020/2021 are eligible for application;
- Students could take part as an individual or as a group with no more than 3 people;
- Students could participate in both groups but could only submit once either in individual or by group;
- All the works must be original;
- Materials Submission:
5.1 Outlook Design Group should submit the followings:
- Online application form;
- Abstract in Chinese or English (in one A4 paper in pdf format with the file size no larger than 2MB);
- Design drawing should be in graphic design, hand painting or computer graphic (no more than A3 paper in pdf format with the file size no larger than 10MB).
5.2 Technical Solution Group should submit the followings:
- Online application form;
- Abstract in Chinese or English (in one A4 paper in pdf format with the file size no larger than 2MB);
- Technical solution proposal (within four pages of A4 paper in pdf format with the file size no larger than 10MB).
6. Applicants should submit application materials online through the Centre for Science and Engineering Promotion website (https://umstem.um.edu.mo/) during the period of 7 to 21 September 2020 ( Application deadline is postponed to 8 October 2020).
7. There are preliminary and final contests. Shortlisted applicants will be announced for final round, which will be tentatively held in October 2020.
IV. Selection Criteria and Awards
1. The committee would conduct qualification review. If any problem or deficiency is found during the review process, the applicant would be able to modify and submit supplementary in specified period stipulated by the committee. Only complete application will be qualified for the preliminary evaluation.
2. Selection Criteria
The work must be original and the innovation should be conceived and produced by the students. Report and production should be completed with own effort.
2.1 Outlook Design Group
- Innovation: refer to the work in a creative way or from a new perspective on the design.
- Overall design: refer to the composition of design and the use of color etc;
- Theme: Chosen theme shall be integrated with Macao’s science, culture and arts.
2.2 Technical Solution Group
- Innovation: refer to the work in a creative way or from a new perspective on the design particularly merged with local urban characteristics;
- Scientific nature: refer to the scientific and technological significance of project. It should be rational, accurate and reliable to scientific theories;
- Practicability: refer to the potential benefits in society and economy.
- The committee will select one for first prize, one for second prize and several for third prizes in each group. The cash prizes are MOP 5,000, MOP 3,000 and MOP 1,000 respectively. The final result will be tentatively announced in November 2020.
